KASS Quote of the Day: The Day English Classical Music DiedSubmitted by administrator on Tue, 2008-09-02 05:29.
"Classical music took a wrong turn in the period after the death of Vaughan Williams. The ruination of music as part of mainstream culture came largely because of subsidy. Composers stopped writing for their public and wrote instead for the small clique that was responsible for commissioning pieces. The cultural commissars were obsessed with theories of music that held that melody was no longer a legitimate tool and only atonal music was appropriate to the age. Their dominance of the subsidy racket meant that not only were composers freed from any obligation to secure an audience for their music, but they were pilloried and starved of funds also if they did attempt to do that."

Ha ha! He was only 'assigned' to my account a month ago when they inexplicably sacked the lovely and cut Australian chap, Michael...(goodness knows why, in view of the volume of trades I alone was making it is not as if young Michael was not pulling his weight)...and is rather a bore, and I am thinking of sacking him anyway as he seems very arrogant...(only room for one of us, and all that)..so yes...

Eli the Optimist
Galt protect us from "normal" people running the country.
Fact is, of course, objectively inferior anti-music flourishes in the free marketplace 'cos of the Comprachicos. Ask your sharebroker if he's heard of them Eli. If he hasn't, fire him.

Ha ha! ...earlier today I was on the telephone with my sharebroker who mentioned some female called 'Tina Turner' (I must confess not knowing her from a bar of soap, prior to today) and how he enjoyed a red wine and listening to her music.
I had to (embarrassingly?) confess to "being a classical man, myself, so not entirely sure who this gal is..." and it seems she has been a popular contemporary entertainer for nearly 50 years ..(gosh! no one tells me anything)...
On the Classical Music front, you should tune into Concert FM in New Zealand where such delights are still available 24 hours per day...http://www.radionz.co.nz/concert/home ...for those who are ignorant or living abroad.
If every New Zealander took my advice and ticks the Libertarianz box on election day then the future of classical music will be assured because 'normal' people will be running the country and genuine music will become the normal way of life...
