Muslim Representation on the Security CouncilSubmitted by PhilipD on Sun, 2008-09-28 00:40.
UN News Centre, 27 September 2008 – "The world’s estimated 1.1 billion Muslims deserve specific representation on an expanded Security Council, Indonesia’s Foreign Minister said today, calling for any reform of the 15-member body United Nations body to consider the need for a variety of constituencies as well as greater geographic distribution." It wouldn't surprise me in the least if they achieve this; aided by some ugly member state horse-trading and an internal push by morally fucked-up UN bureaucrats. Specific Muslim representation on the security council? Chilling. The Indonesian Foreign Minister was making his call to the UN General Assembly as part of a debate on a reform of the Security Council. French President Nicolas Sarkozy spoke earlier in the week on the same topic. France also wants an enlarged Council. Presumably France wants to further reduce the influence of the United States and the United Kingdom by introducing more morally bankrupt but 'friendly' countries to the council. You would think Russia and China were all the friends that France needs, wouldn't you. Maybe they need a few Muslim ones?
