SOLO-U.S. Press Release: Last-Minute Debate Advice for Sarah Palin

Scott DeSalvo

October 1, 2008

Dear Sarah:

Your are a warm person, who is loved by your Alaskan constituents. You have raised a family. You have dealt, face to face, with real people and their real problems. You are a real person, not a plastic, over-coached career politician.

These are your strengths.

You are not a Ph.D. in economics, or anything else for that matter.

Do not try to explain things you only half understand.

Everything we need in a Vice-President comes down to this:

Free markets are good because they give people choice, and those who work hardest and smartest get rewarded. This makes everyone want to work hard and innovate, and we are all more productive. Competition keeps prices low, and supplies high.

Every time a government gets involved in the economy, and tries to out-guess the market, there are problems.

When we have an Enron scandal, of course the government should step in and criminally prosecute. But over-regulating as a result of an isolated case of corruption is a bad idea.

Small government is good. It is founded on the belief that people should be able to choose what they want to do and how they live their lives. The government should ensure that we do not prey on one another, threaten one another, or hurt one another. Short of that, we are free to do what we will. And that is what America is all about.

The problem with career politicians is that the enormous power and money they are associated with can corrupt them--and it does. It is an easier job with more perks than you can find in the private sector, so once in office, they want to stay in office. They stop representing their constituents and start start representing special interests more interested in their personal gain than maintaining freedom and equality in the country. In this way, career politicians have failed the country.

Keep you sentences short. Keep your answers short and simple. Don't speak if your mind is racing. Settle your thoughts and answer from your core values. You love America.

A Vice-President or President does not need to be a Ph.D. in anything. She must be committed to having the best minds around her to help her understand the issues, and have a solid moral compass and real compassion for Americans and love for America. In this way, Presidents and Vice-presidents make their decisions.

In the last hundred years at least, EVERY President and Vice-President has surrounded himself with the best minds in a variety of fields to act as consultants. It is unrealistic to expect a President or VP to know everything. But most pretend to. It is to be expected in this media age, I suppose, but it isn't the truth.

So, America, do you want a sincere, honest, committed, real person in the White House, or an over-coached talking head?

You are smarter than Democrats say you are. You're no ignorant rube.

Just be who you are, and don't speak while you mind is racing. Clear your thoughts, and speak your heart.

We lovers of the First and Second Amendment, we free market capitalists, we supporters of the Constitution, we enemies of Socialism and race politics support you and will be cheering for you.

Sincerely

Scott DeSalvo atlascott@yahoo.com

Fun with electoral vote scenarios . . .

William Scott Scherk's picture

(Palin did a creditable job last night, and no doubt kept whatever supporters she had already garnered . . . and no particular reason to belabour her performance, as no opinions will change here at SOLO because of my big cynical mouth . . . )

-- there are a number of interactive electoral vote pages on the web. I recommend La Times Electoral Map. Fun for the whole family -- if your whole family are political junkies.

The best features are popups that give graphs of each state's electoral totals in the four preceding elections, and a way to share your scenario. Here's a conservative rendering of the latest polls (with Florida to McCain):

Marcus...

yet they didn't quite do the same crawly bum-lick for Hillary, who is also a lefty and a woman. Did for her hubby though.

Obama was born for a Hollywood career, bit like Tom Cruise - imagine if he had veered hard left into politics?! Shudder.

Olivia, Obama has had...

...the media licking his bottom from day one of his campaign. He didn't need to jump hoops because the media are either crawling lefties themselves or are afraid he'll draw the racist card on them.

I'm with you Scott...

She's doing just fine. I don't know what people expect her to be as yet, but authenticity will go a long way to being a great VP. Authenticity, practicality, high ideals and enthusiasm - Sarah Palin has all these things.

You can't judge a person by how they come across in the media. The media is an exercise in hoop jumping for all celebrities and some do it better than others - like Obama. Doesn't mean jack shit.

Billy, "What the fuck

Billy,

"What the fuck next?"

Well, it looks like jackbooted fascism, right here in my own home state:

Dueling banjos of stupidity.

What the fuck next?

Indeed: Evil

Sarah Palin out-cusses the tinker . . .

William Scott Scherk's picture

For those still clinging to the notion that Sarah Palin just needs to be herself, here's an excerpt, a painful excerpt from the Couric interview. The goldarn mainstream media; how dare they badger the poor beauty queen like this? Frigging commie collectivist cheerleaders . . .

(as for Scott's advice to Palin, perhaps he can update us tomorrow, after she crushes Biden with her wit, aplomb and moose-gutting skills. As for Marcus's observation, who is the Airhead?)

SIR!

EBrown2's picture

"The voters will all say, 'oh what a lovely hockey mom. Much nicer looking than that old Biddy standing next to her!'"

How dare you question the rationality of voting in a democracy, you fascist you! Jawdropping!

Anne Frank had a wonderful democratic referendum on her right to exist in 1932.

Too bad she lost the vote.

Sadly, it wont make a Tinkers' dam...

Marcus's picture

...what Palin says.

Judging by the American Airhead poll response to the McCain-Obama debate, what they say wont matter, all that will matter is who looks better at flashing their teeth and smiling.

The voters will all say, 'oh what a lovely hockey mom. Much nicer looking than that old Biddy standing next to her!'

That's good advice Mr
