Ayn increasingly referenced in the mainstreamSubmitted by HWH on Sat, 2008-10-11 04:44.
So it's a variation on the theme of Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. After a while John Galt said, “Screw it, I'm checking out. I'm through supporting everybody else, not my job, not my responsibility, not when they're not trying to help themselves.” Atlas Shrugged. full transcript here from the Rush Limbaugh show.

You're right
Just goes to show how the entrenched altruist virus prohibits most people from getting it...but not half as maddening as the growing number of references to Ayn Rand as having been a disciple of Nietsche..as well as the smearing of her for being behind Greenspan's ideology of failure.
It's the same willfull evasion by the media on covering up the role of the Democrats in bringing about the collapse of the economy with their forced implementation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, whilst focussing all the blame on "unfettered" capitalism and the greed of CEO's at Lehmann Bros and other Wall street failures.
I have "Ayn Rand" on Google alerts though, and the references to her work and Atlas shrugging have just ballooned out of all proportion since the start of the collapse, and in a way it's heartening to know how many are finding her ideas to be prophetic and spot-on during these times.
I admit that reason is a small and feeble flame, a flickering torch by stumblers carried in the starless night, -- blown and flared by passion's storm, -- and yet, it is the only light. Extinguish that, and nought remains.- - Robert Green Ingersoll
Well, that's nice I
Well, that's nice I guess...but he doesn't quite have John Galt's motives down. He makes it sound like if people were trying to help themselves then Galt might accept it as a duty to support them.
