I'll be doing my monthly update today & will reinforce that staff must report for duty.

That's a good idea. Though the top menu is looking pretty crowded at the moment. It was never supposed to have that many links. It started with about 3, from memory. Can we remove any of those links?

Alternatively, we could move some of those to a second tier of smaller links.

Long-term, we could really do with a professional web-designer having a good look. Does anybody know of somebody who could lend us a hand? Duncan and I are not designers.

I was thinking that a new link on the main, top menu to the new chat function would make people more aware of it and more likely to start using it. What do you think?

Ok, I have fixed the chatbox so that it no longer displays the latest messages on the homepage.

Issues remaining:
- Chatbox has an arbitrary word limit.
- Broken links on the Mario Lanza website.

I'll fix the Lanza links tomorrow.

No, my unprivileged alter ego is unable to see or access the staff posts.

The chatbox should be fairly easy to modify, but would require a code change that would take an hour or so to test and do properly. Will have it done today.

Also, I still haven't fixed the Lanza links. I'll hopefully get to that today as well. Sorry about that. Long story.

Something like that happened on the old SOLO site, but I can't find the thread. There was a discussion in the staff forum about how much dissent SOLO could handle, and whether those opposed to Objectivism should be banned, provided with a separate forum or something. Somehow the titles and the first ten words of each post in that thread became visible on the main page, and some posters (notably the Catholic, Citizen Rat, IIRC) immediately assumed that they were the sole target of some nefarious plan to invent reasons to ban them, thereby violating their rights to freedom of speech - or something like that, anyway!

Can Leonard Gould see the staff posts? If not, I assume we're hot to trot. Let me know. I wanna do an update on March 1. Also, how simple is it to remove the chat from the front page? Front page should show simply who's chatting, not what they're saying.

No, it didn't. It did appear in the email to my main account's email though. So the permissions seem to work on that level too. Perhaps I'm paranoid, but it just makes me nervous. What kind of things will we be discussing on the staff-only posts?
