The Piano Concerto Meets Hollywood : Poulenc's Piano Concerto

This is a newer piece of music to me. It plays a lot like an old Hollywood film score. The composer is French, but this piece of music sounds distinctly American.

That is a good bit of cinema. Good sets. Sounds like a Rach prelude. Did you ever watch the movie The Pianist?

What is this Warsaw concerto?

Written by Richard Addinsell for the wartime movie Dangerous Moonlight. A mini-concerto in the style of Rachmaninoff. I believe Rach himself was asked to write it, but declined, for whatever reason. You can hear its themes somewhat fragmentedly in this delightful clip from the movie:

I don't get much out of Poulenc. Have actually performed him several times, and he's even worse for the other side of the music stand.

Don't start in on Delius, Linz! I'm related to him somehow...

I pulled out of this about a third of the way through. Dribble and drivel. Reminded me of some Delius-type meandering nonsense. I repaired to the Warsaw Concerto for a quick fix. Eye
