Letter to my local newspaper re. AGW

Sent this to the local newspaper. They've printed my letters before so I have hopes for this one, strongly-written though it is ...

Dear Sir,

I was shocked and disappointed to see P. Cook blaming anthropogenic global warming for the bushfires that devastated our State so recently.

Environmentalists have long opposed controlled burnoffs in danger areas, and have lobbied for heavier restrictions on tree-felling around residences. Miranda Divine has done a sterling job of documenting the shameful about-face of environmental groups who are now trying to convince Australians that they were never opposed to such lifesaving measures in the first place.

While climate change itself is a reality and has been since life emerged on our planet, the claim that it is caused by human activity is still hotly debated amongst scientists. 4,000 scientists have signed the Heidelberg Appeal refuting the idea of man-made global warming. A further 35,000 scientists, including 72 Nobel laureates, have signed The Statement by Atmospheric Scientists on Greenhouse Warming, which also refutes the existence of man-made global warming.

I would have thought that environmentalists would have the decency to wait for the embers to cool before trying to cite this latest disaster as evidence for their increasingly shaky claims, especially when they themselves bear some of the responsibility for the human tragedy that occurred.

Yours sincerely,
Duncan Bayne

I think it's because you purposely toned it down a tad Duncan.

Though it makes one feel better, a fit of coprolalia isn't the best way to get into the mainstream.

Good on you mate.

They printed it without

They printed it without edits. Will be interesting to see the responses next week.

Letter to green peace

Kasper's picture

I got duped into becoming a member for green peace some months ago and recently got one of their email flyer's informing me of earth hour and encouraging me to unite with the rest of New Zealand to switch our lights off. I replied:

Hi Nick

Thank you for your email regarding earth hour. We will be celebrating Edison
hour to voice our support of the technology, innovation and difference to our
lives the light bulbs have made. All 200 will be lit in Epsom during this time.
Unfortunately I was 'sold' into donating to green peace upon concerns being
raised over depleting fish resources. Of course there would be absolutely no
sense in defending these resources except for the fact that we human beings
need them and so it makes sense to have strategies in place to make this
sustainable.

I am at odds with Green Peace's anti-nuclear policy. However, what really
irritates me is this anthropogenic global warming propaganda. This has
particularly been picked up and pushed forward by both NGO's and government
organizations including the international panel on climate change. No doubt the
climate is changing as it inherently does. The link between green house gases,
co2 and other pollution as being the cause of climate change is so weak and
baseless that it is a moral crime to be promoting the theory as a fact to the
public and to school children.

Working in a university I am yet to find or even be presented with any evidence
that shows a cause/effect or even a strong correlation between climate change
and man. Unfortunately for you I am not just another un-educated kiwi idiot who
soaks up media propaganda like a sponge. Christians advertise their faith as
having reason and science behind it. Of course discussion quickly alludes that
there is none. Nor is there any evidence of AGW.

I am of the firm belief that campaigns such as earth hour are just another anti
human life and anti industrial development campaign. I think it possibly comes
from a premise that natural things such as the earth, animals and vegetation
are intrinsically good because they are natural. Man on the other hand is held
as not natural and somehow needs to be contained.

If you people were really interested in Global Warming why has so much effort
been spent on the dooms day, devastation and 'we are all killing our planet'
approach rather than being objective about it. Such objectives could be future
city plans that incorporate higher seas and drainage solutions for the so
called 'disastrous' weather that is so expected? Are you more interested in
these 'unite' campaigns so that you can finally get to a point of a global
government controlled by lefties? Please I challenge you to give some solid
evidence other wise would you politely just clear off.

Regards,
Kasper Kulak
