Another Musical GemSubmitted by Jason Quintana on Mon, 2009-04-20 05:45
Lindsay and I were just chatting about this and I feel like posting it. This is Deanna Durban singing "Danny Boy" in the 1946 movie "Because of Him". I think this fits with SOLOs agenda of advocating yesterday's good music vs. today's bad music. Would we ever see something like this in a modern movie?

Deanna Durbin, Shivers
Bravo to you Jason!
Deanna Durbin, a sadly neglected star of the 40s, long underrated. Starting as a pre-teen, she blossomed into a beautiful young woman, then grew disgusted with the way she was treated and moved to Texas. A great talent, even though her movies were very uneven.
One of her best movies (and roles) was Lady on a Train, an adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel (filmed several times) 4:50 From Paddington. Another fine, fun film was Something in the Wind (with the superb dancer and comedian Donald O'Connor in an early role), which starts with a rousing tune right at the first frame.
