The Sense of SmellSubmitted by Prima Donna on Sat, 2006-03-11 20:36.
This is from my Weekly Meditation, which is part of the podcast we now produce at the Gilded Fork (www.gildedfork.com). I'm presently doing a series on the senses, so this was the first installment. Note that the fabulous music was created by my favorite Pianoman. Additional note: Recorded with cold, hence Lauren Bacall-esque thematic. Music: New York Cheesecake by Adam Buker

Coming Soon
In addition to the launch of the Culinary Podcast Network, we will be unveiling a new podcast in the next couple of weeks hosted by...me.
The Food Philosophy podcast will cover a broad spectrum of material celebrating the sensual pleasures of food, with a dash of Aristotle, a pinch of Julia Child, and a hearty tablespoon of sass.
We got a great mention on Adam Curry's Daily Source Code yesterday, so we're really excited that people are embracing our love of food. I blogged about it here:

Woo!!
Pod People
You're welcome Julian! I'd be delighted to either upload more, or I can offer a link to a brand-spanking new initiative we've just launched...only I can't talk about it until tomorrow or so.
Sturm, don't threaten me with a good time. You might regret it.
Truffles?
I suppose Sturm would be truffle-flavored
I would be if you covered me from head to toe in the stuff first.
Lovely Jennifer! Thanks for
Lovely Jennifer!
Thanks for that. I love cooking, and I love sniffing, touching and tasting as much as I can. I'll put some conscious thought into my sniffing from now on.
Also, thank you for creating our very first SOLO podcast entry!

Hopefully this will inspire others to give it a go.
If anybody would like some tips on how to get started with podcasting, let me know - I can send you some pointers. If there is enough interest, I can present a live, online tutorial session via the ChatBox.
Cheers
Julian
Thank you, Joe. As soon as
Thank you, Joe.
As soon as I heard the piece from Adam I knew it was the right one; of course, then I had to wait with impatience for a chance to use it, as we weren't yet ready.
I've been reading a bit about synaesthetics, as it came up in something I was working on, and I'm quite fascinated by it. In fact, it gave me pause to see if there is anything synaesthetic in my thinking itself (i.e. do I see words in colors, or perhaps people in flavors? I suppose Sturm would be truffle-flavored).
Some of what I have read rings familiar, but I need to pay a bit more conscious attention to what happens when I think of words, food, and music. Thanks for bringing this intriguing subject to my attention.
Synaesthetics
Jen, I still say you are a synaesthete! Beautiful. Not only do you have the sense of smell and taste, but you got a soundtrack to go with it! Nice, Pianoman. BTW, has anyone else noticed that music accompanying cooking shows and fine dining is most always upbeat, jazzy, or uplifting?
You guys are proving that culinary creations are indeed an art.
