Yes. They were too young to know what they were doing, and Rand manipulated them.

No. They have exhibited similar behaviour right up to the present.

Yes, if they would truly come clean now.

Sacred toes stepped on...

Oh, sorry, Gregster, a touchy subject, huh? Wow, my typeo has far reaching implications. Actually, I read both the Branden books and Valliant’s opus, so how ignorant of the subject can I be?

Sharia, wrong on all points

and it's "Nathaniel" - which proves your non-familiarity with matters.

Hopeless liar.

Generally speaking, Nathanial Branden will be known for his brilliant work in his respective field and only glassy eyed Objectivists will make a moral fuss over the Rand affair 50 years or so after Branden’s death.

Barbara Branden will be remembered as Nathanial’s wife, graced by the common sir name.

Where is the final question

Where is the final question on this survey--‘Do you still beat your wife?’

Other

I think there was deception and sneaky manipulation all around. I voted "other" -- that the deception was forgivable on the grounds of complex, tricky, love triangles/quadrangles. And didn't Nathaniel and Barbara admit and apologize for most or all of their deception and manipulation? Would that Rand had done a fraction as much!

Another survey question might be: Was Rand's post-1968, Brandens-based deception of the Objectivist community forgivable? Also: Was Rand's massive proclivity for injust personal and ideological purges and excommunications (an evil phenomenon still overwhelmingly with us) forgivable?

Survey Says . . .

I believe the Brandens have "come clean" about their behavior.

Rand and Branden

Leonid's picture

The idea that Rand manipulated Nathaniel Branden is preposterous. She admired him, considered him a genius whose mind is equal to hers, she named Objectivist Institute after him and she genuinely fell in love with him. If anything, it was Branden who used Rand and then discarded her like old cloth. Actually one can only feel pity for him-with all his brilliancy of mind he couldn't understand and appreciate how lucky he was by coming so close to the person who changed the course of human history. Rand and Branden will go together for centuries like Mozart and Saliery, and the name "Branden" will become synonym of everlasting shame.

How Not to Write a Survey Question

Robert Campbell's picture

Mr. Perigo doesn't know how to write a closed-ended survey question.

It reminds me of one of those loaded items we sometimes get in taxpayer-funded letters from our US Congressman.

... it's for the PAR- and PARC-Literate. If you've followed the debates here (and I don't understand how you could have missed them!) and read the books, that's you. Is there information to be found?! Jesus Christ, Sandi, where have you been?! Wink

Otherwise, don't worry about it.

Clarification would be useful.

I have no idea of what is behind this. Is there information to be found?
