American Film Scores - Mendelssohn, Fingal's CaveSubmitted by Jeff Perren on Thu, 2009-06-11 01:20
An overture from a master of Romantic music, The Hebrides, Op 26 by Felix Mendelssohn. Also known as Fingal's Cave after the basalt formation on Staffa, an island off the coast of Scotland visited by the composer, it's perfect for just listening. It also goes well with video, for which it seems to have been made. Professionally, to my knowledge, it's been used only as the score for the short Moods of the Sea (1941), but the theme would go well with any number of dramatic films. Here, it forms the background for some travel footage that is interesting in its own right.

It would be nice
If I could see the dang thing. For some reason I can never see a Youtube posted here until the next day--I suppose it's some quirkyness along the way from SOLO to my browser through Earthlink, and I don't have the tech-fu to figure it.
But, by sheer coincidence, the CD I started up as I went online tonight is Mendelssohn, and track no 5 is--guess what? Fingal's Cave.
EDIT: And no sooner did I post this, then the video appears on the refreshed page
