In Orwell's 1984 there was no Orwell and no novel called 1984. By writing that story, Orwell exposed the danger of a Big Brother state. We are forewarned and our society is inoculated against it ever happening in real life.

I've yet to read an honest, reasonable argument against the creation of a permanent DNA database, including not just criminals, but everyone, from birth.

How can you folks have a violent crime problem at all? You have outlawed handguns and silverware haven't you? Perhaps you aren't letting the criminal element know that crime is illegal? If you ban sticks and stones as well then really there should be nothing left to argue about.
