Education, of course:

He certainly is skilled in the rhetoric, some of this reads well, but:

The proposals, if approved by Congress, would replace the current law’s pass-fail school grading system with one that would measure schools not only with test scores but also with indicators like pupil attendance and the learning climate in classrooms ... President Obama’s plan would replace the No Child law’s requirement that every American child reach proficiency in reading and math, which administration officials have called utopian, with a new national target that may be even harder to achieve: that all students should graduate from high school prepared for college and a career.

It seems the current state school system was already shot to bits, however, now there will be many more lashings of polemic and brain-washing of minds added to the program. (Last Sunday morning I saw Glenn Beck do a good piece on how the education system was being subverted to channel little minds into thinking 'progressive'.)

Secular Enemies of Liberty

I attended an atheist convention a few years ago where I had the displeasure of encountering an atheist who wanted to outlaw non-state schooling to "protect" children from religion. Another supported progressive taxation. Still another bellowed, "Fuck you!", when I tried to explain a capitalist concept to an inquiring third party in the hospitality suite.

"Secular" does not equal "rational."

I 'think' I remember reading

I 'think' I remember reading at the start of this year that at least one of the Scandinavian countries is looking at legislation that would make home schooling illegal. I wonder how long before that catches on in all our other Nanny States?

Visit the Alliance for the Separation of School and State Web site to learn ways to exit the system via home schooling, etc.

This should make you angry...

I recently discovered (through my son's schoolwork) 'progressivism' being promoted in NZ by Human rights in education - Founded on the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Somes gems of wisdom from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights...
Article 23) 1. Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favourable conditions of work and to protection against unemployment.
Article 25) 1. Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.
Article 26) 1. Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit.
Article 29) 1. Everyone has duties to the community in which alone the free and full development of his personality is possible.

Here's a gem from the Convention on the Rights of the Child which in practice opposes justice...
Article 3) 1. In all actions concerning children, whether undertaken by public or private social welfare institutions, courts of law, administrative authorities or legislative bodies, the best interests of the child shall be a primary consideration.
