Cargo cult

Socialists don't concern themselves with the problem of production. They claim that such a problem somehow by somebody has been resolved, the goods are out there, they are natural resources which don't belong to anybody in particular and now the only problem they have to resolve is a problem of distribution. In fact these mystics of muscle are practicing the western version of Cargo cult, using meaningless Marxist jargon as a magic ritual. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C...

So Obama is saying...

...you can only grow the economy with more (not less) taxes and regulations?

I thought socialists did not concern themselves with the economy, but equality of opportunity.

What happened to the old school left-wing intellectuals who wanted to control the "means of production", but didn't want to sacrifice individual liberty?

Bill Ayers must be very disappointed with his star pupil.

Initially, yes.

But here in America, what big business means by "deregulation" is "we want to keep our subsidies and special privileges, and we want the right to do whatever we want with them."

I'm all for deregulation -- but only after we've decoupled business and government.

Aren't business and government coupled together by regulations?

the trouble is

When corporation become fused with government, deregulation translates into carte blanche on absolute power. I'm all for deregulation -- but only after we've decoupled business and government.

Now just as there was in Teddy Roosevelt's time, there's a certain crowd in Washington who for the last few decades have said, "Let's respond to this econonic challenge with the same old tune: 'the market will take care of everything'," they tell us. "If we just cut more regulations and cut more taxes, especially for the wealthy, our economy will grow stronger."

Now, it's a simple theory and we have to admit, it's one that speaks to our rugged individualism and our healthy skepticism of too much government. That's in America's DNA. And that theory fits well on a bumper sticker.

But here's the problem. It doesn't work. It has never worked.

Thanks for posting that, Leonid. I bet many voted for Obama to rid the White House of Bush, the worst president since Clinton. I bet they're regretting it now.

"If we just cut more regulations and cut more taxes ..." Yes we can!

"That's in America's DNA ..." Not in Obama's anti-American DNA! (By design, or otherwise.)

"But here's the problem ..." Fellow freedom-fighters, meet Barack Obama!
