Quite so ...

Still though, Reagan had a goodness that permeated his being. Obama has a nastiness that permeates his. He is filled with a hatred towards his country. Its written on his face especially when he smirks. Its hard not hate Obama and love Reagan. If you have a soul that is.

I meant to make the sense-of-life contrast, not argue that Reagan's economic plan was perfect (though how nice it would be to hear such mere imperfection now rather than the sheer evil emanating from the orifice of The Filth). In 1981 it was still possible to believe there was hope. Reagan's sunny optimism was not a mindless Panglossian affectation. That which Ayn Rand asked Americans not to let go, they had not yet let go. Now they have.

Kyle, I know full well the corrosion didn't occur just in the last 22 years. I've argued precisely that in my various articles on Gramsci et al, the latest being my piece on the two Lanzas. I think everyone's taking me a bit literally round here. Eye

And Yet Lindsay

Reagan compromised totally in that video; i.e. his "bipartisan recovery package". Even he, and yes he was a noble man, was unable to challenge the Left in any serious way. At the beginning of the video he argues that America was not a sick nation because it produced decent men, men that saved his life. Well, that's not the way to look at it. When a disease invades your body you are still sick despite the fact that your body is putting up a fight to resist the disease. Reagan had the same Panglossian view of America that many Objectivists have; that at root there is still the American sense of life to fall back on. That looks to be very wrong. We have the Laura Dunham's of the world now. That IS a sick culture.

If you take Reagan out of the picture, American politics at that time are very similar to the current crop. Reagan was the exception...

In other words, it's been much longer than 22 years. The corrosion has been generally slow but steady.

Wotta difference ...

... 22 years make. Here's Reagan before Congress in 1981. Just after his State of the Union address that year, he was shot. "Honey, I forgot to duck." Within weeks he was back in front of Congress, pitching for his economic recovery programme (c/f The Filth):

It Amazes Me...

...That NO ONE in politics has the ability to take an impassioned pro-liberty stance. The only people with passion are Leftists and Muslims. No one defending the good has strength. What an age we live in.

Semi-Libertarian

I agree with Lindsay. Rand Paul's speech is pretty incoherent, unprincipled, uninspiring, and boring. But maybe if he was a consistent libertarian he'd be quickly forced out of office. So his tedious, rambling, lack of focus as he promotes freedom may be a survival strategy. Still, I think he can do better.

Rand and Rubio

Lindsay Perigo's picture

Rand Pauls' delivery is amateurish, but I like that, unlike his dad, he condemns Islamofilth. Rubio is simply Milksop Mitt all over again.

At this stage, I'd root for Rand. Been doin' it for quite a while, after all. Eye

But really, I think it's too late. Airheads rule, Obamarx's juggernaut is running rampant, and neither potential candidate comes close to taking them on. Airhead America is about to get what it deserves.
