The Free RadicalTHESIS: 'Clark Vader and the Helengrad Labour Lesbians'Submitted by Peter Cresswell on Mon, 2008-07-14 22:07.
These days, you can get a graduate diploma in political science at Victoria University of Wellington by analysing "John Banks and Lindsay Perigo, in their host roles on the Radio Pacific breakfast talk show 'The First Edition,'" in particular their "political-symbolic hate campaign" against Helen Clark which was "crystallised," says research student Lewis Stoddart, "into a characterisation which I describe as ‘communist lesbian dictator’." Religionists vs non-religionists on airSubmitted by Peter Cresswell on Fri, 2008-03-21 00:06.
Julian Darby has uploaded the four-handed religion debate from Lindsay Perigo's show on Radio Live this morning, which I'm told was brilliant radio. I myself have to take his word for that at this stage since I was sleeping at the time, but you can click here to hear the debate in its full MP3 brilliance. Another apology we'd like to hearSubmitted by Peter Cresswell on Thu, 2008-02-14 02:22.
Seeing as it's Sorry Week in Australia, here's an apology I'd like to see some honest NZ education department apparatchik deliver. Today I'd like to honour the New Zealand children who were delivered by government force into our care, and whom we rewarded by abusing their parents' trust and depriving them of the human potential with which they were born. We reflect on your past mistreatment, and we have to say: we were responsible. 'One-Law-For-All' DaySubmitted by Peter Cresswell on Mon, 2008-02-04 22:45.
Expect another day tomorrow of protest, anger and hot air, all now par for the course for the day on which New Zealand was founded. You'd think, in a country with as much to offer and as much to celebrate as New Zealand has that our National Day itself would be something to celebrate. Not likely. Dissenting scientists unwelcome at the Bali ballSubmitted by Peter Cresswell on Wed, 2007-12-12 21:29.
Debate at the IPCC's 'Bali High' global warming talk-fest is being kept down by having dissenters kept out (a process all too familiar to observers of the Electoral Finance Bill, and of the methodology by which the IPCC's "consensus" is produced). Newspapers opposing the party line have been refused press credentials, and distinguished scientists from Africa, Australia, India, New Zealand, the UK and the US have been barred from presenting at panel discussions, side events, and exhibits, and also denied press credentials.

The Banishment of Charlie ChaplinSubmitted by Marcus on Thu, 2006-06-29 01:05.
[From The Free Radical, Issue 67] Charlie Chaplin was one of first geniuses of cinema and had a career that lasted over 50 years and spanned over 80 movies. During the height of his fame in the 1920s and 30s he was one of the wealthiest and most famous movie icons in the US. And yet after the Second World War Chaplin was to provoke a moral backlash and frenzy over his alleged communist activities that would see him effectively banished. How was it possible that such a man who had become the most universally recognized icon in the world suddenly became persona non grata in his adopted country? Holiday Reprise - Making Life ExtraordinarySubmitted by Ashley on Mon, 2006-01-02 05:10.
When Joe asked me to speak, I was concerned about choosing a topic I would feel comfortable speaking about while standing amidst giants. Given that we are in New York City today, one topic seemed appropriate. It has been burned into my head for almost a year now, and when I heard that our conference would be held here it became clear, as it has personal significance. I have always been enthralled by the vision of an airplane making its way across the sky. Whether in an office or home, walking on the sidewalk or riding in my car, the flash of sunlight on steel was enough to make me take pause-a moment to dream, to imagine something enormous, as big as the sky itself. This feeling has stayed with me from childhood. Perhaps it has contributed to my love for travel; even the fact that I sometimes fly several times per month for work never diminished my fascination with planes and airports. The Silence of Ayn Rand’s CriticsSubmitted by Casey on Sat, 2005-12-03 07:17.
EXCLUSIVE to SOLO and The Free Radical. (Subscribe to the print edition and receive a whole lot more.)
Fifteen years have passed since David Kelley wrote this fateful passage about Barbara Branden’s book, The Passion of Ayn Rand, in an infamous paper that would, after Ayn Rand’s official intellectual heir Leonard Peikoff responded with his paper “Fact and Value,” open a rancorous schism in Objectivist scholarship. Kelley and the Ayn Rand Institute would part ways over this divisive issue and its philosophical implications, with Kelley going on to create The Objectivist Center. The TOC side argued that the biographical portrait of Ayn Rand written by Barbara Branden (eventually extending to the memoir about Rand written by Nathaniel Branden) should be regarded as an objective source of information, while the other side rejected the Brandens’ testimony outright as arbitrary assertions made without regard for the truth.
